Its composition includes organic acids, anthocyanosides, responsible for the red color of the infusion, flavonoids, mucilages, pectins and an essential oil (eugenol). These components explain the anti-inflammatory, soothing, antiasthenic, antispasmodic and slightly laxative action of hibiscus. It is used to soothe inflammation of the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal spasms and to fight against fatigue.
